Pour Point

Test Equipment

Description

Pour point is the lowest temperature that movement can be observed in a fuel product. This information can provide the optimal storage and use of the fuel. Often the ambient outside temperature is lower than a product's pour point, necessitating the use of pour point supressors and/or improvers in northern states like Colorado. Blending of different grades of diesel fuel can also help. A similar property which should be considered in conjunction with pour point is Cold Filter Plugging Point (ASTM D6153), which is another measurement of flow properties of the fuel in cold conditions.
